Glacier Park Lodge

Glacier Park Lodge is a spectacular building, with huge Douglas fir timbers forming the Ionic columns in the Greek revival lobby. Early park visitors typically pulled in on the train from the east and disembarked at East Glacier [1] to spend a night at the lodge before saddling up to ride the circuit of backcountry chalets and tent camps in the company of a guide. Once Going-to-the-Sun Road [2] was built, auto travel supplanted both the train and the horse, and the spotlight was off the massive lodge.
