For whatever reason, the Asian influence is not prevalent in Charleston [1] cuisine. But Wasabi (61 State St., 843/577-5222, Mon.–Thurs. 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Sun. noon–9 p.m., $10–15) has made quite a name for itself as a great place for sushi downtown, though its hibachi work is impressive as well. The bar gets hopping after dinner.
