Directly between the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Jepson Center for the Arts [1] stands Trinity United Methodist Church (225 W. President St., 912/233-4766, Sunday services 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m., sanctuary open to public daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m.), Savannah [2]’s first Methodist church.
Built in 1848 on the site of the Telfair’s family garden, its masonry walls are of famous “Savannah Gray” bricks—a lighter, more porous, and elegant variety—under stucco. Virgin long-leaf pines were used for most of the interior, fully restored in 1969. Call ahead for a tour.
