The hotel scene in Savannah [1], once notorious for its absurdly high price-to-service ratio, has improved a great deal in the past couple of years. Perhaps ironically, several stylish new downtown hotels opened more or less concurrently with the recent economic downturn. Their addition means increased competition, and therefore marginally lower prices, across the board.
Savannah’s many historic bed-and-breakfasts are competitive with the hotels on price, and often outperform them on service and ambience. If you don’t need a swimming pool and don’t mind climbing some stairs every now and then, a B&B is usually your best bet. And of course the breakfasts are great, too!
