Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

Memphis’s [1] foremost art museum is located in Overton Park [2] in midtown, a short drive from downtown. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art (1934 Poplar Ave., 901/544-6200, www.brooksmuseum.org [3], Tues.–Fri. 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun. 11:30 a.m.–5 p.m., adults $7, seniors $6, students $3) is the largest fine art museum in Tennessee, and its permanent collection includes 8,000 works of art. This includes ancient African and Asian art, as well as European, American, and contemporary art.

There are 29 galleries at the Brooks, and special exhibitions have focused on the work of Annie Leibovitz, men’s fashion in Africa, and the silver work of Paul de Lamerie.

There is also a museum shop and restaurant, as well as an auditorium often used to screen films. Admission to the Brooks is free on Wednesday.
