The
Talbot Heirs Guesthouse (99 S. 2nd St., 901/527-9772, www.talbothouse.com [1], $130–250) in the heart of downtown offers a winning balance of comfort and sophistication. Each of the inn’s nine rooms has its own unique decor—from cheerful red walls to black-and-white chic. All rooms are thoughtfully outfitted with a full kitchen and modern bathroom, television, radio and CD player, sitting area, desk and high-speed Internet. Little extras like the refrigerator stocked for breakfast go a long way, as does the cheerful yet efficient welcome provided by proprietors Tom and Sandy Franck. Book early since the Talbot Heirs is often full, especially during peak summer months.
Until the Westin at Beale Street opened in 2007, the Hampton Inn & Suites (175 Peabody Pl., 901/260-4000, http://hamptoninn1.hilton.com [2], $175) was the only hotel less than a block from Beale Street [3]. The Hampton has 144 standard rooms, with high-speed Internet and standard hotel accommodations. The 30 suites ($250) have kitchens and separate living quarters.
