The best all-around museum in Knoxville [1], the Frank H. McClung Museum (1327 Circle Park Dr., 865/974-2144, http://mcclungmuseum.utk.edu [2], Mon.–Sat. 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun. 1–5 p.m., free) houses a wide variety of historical, cultural, and natural history exhibits.
Long-standing exhibits explore ancient Egypt, the native peoples of Tennessee, and the Civil War in Knoxville. Other exhibits look at Tennessee’s freshwater mussels and decorative arts in Tennessee. There are also special temporary exhibits.
