The Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum (2743 Wimpole St., 865/540-8690, www.knoxarboretum.org [1], daily sunrise–sunset, free) is a dream that is slowly taking shape. Located on grounds once occupied by a plant nursery, the gardens are an effort by volunteers and family members of the former landowners.
The grounds are leafy and pleasant, though not very manicured. It is a pleasant place to come for a walk. Staff members are generally present on weekdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; at other times the garden is unattended.
