For a truly upscale day hike, or a luxurious backpacking expedition, consider llama trekking. Let the llamas carry your picnic or overnight gear, while you walk comfortably to destinations in the Cherokee National Forest and Nantahala National Forest (since llamas aren’t allowed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park [1]).
English Mountain Llama Treks (828/622-9686) offers day trips for between $75 and $100 a person. A two-day trip costs $280 per person, and a three-day trip is $380; all gear and food is provided.
