The ultimate luxury cruise experience in the Amazon is only possible onboard the M/V Aqua (U.S. tel. 866/603-3687, www.aquaexpeditions.com [1], three nights starting at US$2,250, seven nights starting at US$5,250), a 12-suite vessel exquisitely designed by Peruvian architect and designer Jordi Puig.
Minimalistic decor and a sober elegance made this river cruise a floating five-star boutique hotel. A second ship is currently being built, the M/V Aria, to be launched in April 2011.
The voyages on the Aqua depart year-round out of Iquitos [2], offering three-, four-, and seven-day itineraries to Reserva Nacional Pacaya Samiria [3].
The suites feature large panoramic windows and en suite sitting areas, all with air-conditioning, and with available interconnection up to four—ideal for families. The Aria will be slightly larger, with 16 stylishly designed suites accommodating 32 passengers. It will also feature an outdoor Jacuzzi, an exercise room, and a reference library.
All meals on board are highlighted by fresh, delicious Peruvian fare created in partnership with Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, one of Peru’s top 10 chefs. Complimentary South American wines are paired with dinners each evening.
