A joint project of the University of Georgia and Chatham County, the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Garden (2 Canebrake Rd., 912/921-5460, www.bamboo.caes.uga.edu [1], Mon.–Fri. 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun. noon–5 p.m., free) is an education and demonstration center featuring a wide array of native species in addition to the eponymous Asian wonder weed, which has its roots in a private collection dating from the late 1800s.
Many of the mature trees were planted in the 1930s. They also periodically hold you-pick-’em harvest days for berries.
To get there, take Exit 94 off of I-95 and take U.S. 204 east towards Savannah. Turn right on East Gateway Boulevard, then left on Canebrake Road. Enter at the Canebrake gate.
