The enormously popular Centennial Trail follows an old railway route, connecting Snohomish with Lake Stevens, eight miles north. This paved trail is a great spot for biking, in-line skating, or running.
For a delightful country drive, head southeast from Stanwood on the road to the tiny burg called Silvana. Along the way, you’ll wind along wooded Prestliens Bluff, overlooking big dairy farms, haystacks, and aging barns.
Nearby is the 18-hole Kayak Point Golf Course (360/652-9676 or 800/562-3094, www.golfkayak.com [1], $42), considered one of Washington’s finest public courses.
Get a glimpse of the rich farmlands, verdant forests and towering peaks of Snohomish County [2] from up above. Hop aboard a basket and watch the envelope fill with hot air aboard the colorful balloons launched by Airial Balloon Company (360/485-3658, www.airialballoon.com [3]).
Or take a more conventional ride aboard a plane on one of the scenic flights offered by Snohomish Flying Service (360/568-1541, www.snohomishflying.com [4]).
