The historic Mt. Baker Theatre (106 N. Commercial, 360/733-5793, www.mountbakertheatre.com [1])—built in 1927 as a vaudeville and movie palace—hosts the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra (360/734-6080, www.whatcomsymphony.com [2]) plus many other musical and theatrical performances.
The two-week-long Bellingham Festival of Music each August brings world-class classical and jazz musicians to town, and the Brown Bag Music Series (360/676-6985) features concerts on the public library lawn each Friday mid-June through August.
Staffed and performed entirely by local volunteers, the Bellingham Theatre Guild (1600 H St., 360/733-1811, www.bellinghamtheatreguild.com [3]) produces five plays a year from fall to spring in the old Congregational Church building.
More plays are presented in the Theatre Arts (360/650-6146) series at Western Washington University [4].
