Take a walk around a bog and displays at Tennant Lake Interpretive Center (at the end of Nielsen Rd. just south of the turnoff to Hovander Homestead, 360/384-3444). This 720-acre park is an interpretive center for Tennant Lake, with a system of trails, a half-mile boardwalk through the marsh, and an observation tower. One of the park’s highlights is the wheelchair-accessible Fragrance Garden, designed so people who are visually impaired—and anyone else—can experience more than 60 varieties of plants by scent.
The state-operated Lake Terrell Wildlife Area (four miles west of Ferndale [1], 360/384-4723) covers 1,500 acres and has picnic areas, trails, fishing, and three boat launches.
