Get friendly with sea cucumbers, starfish, sea anemones, and barnacles in the saltwater touch-tank or watch a jellyfish flotilla at the fascinating Marine Science Center (18743 Front St. NE, 360/598-4460, www.poulsbomsc.org [1], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, donations only). Also on-site is a huge gray whale skeleton and lots of information about other Puget Sound sea creatures and problems facing the ocean.
Stroll down the 600-foot shoreside boardwalk that connects Liberty Bay Park to the small arboretum at American Legion Park. Both parks have picnic areas, restrooms, and water access. Head uphill to the corner of 4th Avenue and Lincoln Road for the Fordefjord Lutheran Church, built in 1908.
