Fox Island is five miles southwest of Gig Harbor [1] and is connected by a bridge over Hale Passage. Stop by the Fox Island Historical Society and Museum (253/549-2239, 1–4 p.m. Mon. and Sat., 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Wed., $1).
Beachside B&B (679 Kamus Dr., 253/549-2524, www.beachsidebb.com [2], $135 d) certainly lives up to its name. This modern take on a brick-and-wood lodge home butts right up to the beach; during high tide the water laps against the raised seawall. On sunny days, enjoy the extended continental breakfast served from the garden patio or the lounge chairs set up on the waterside lawn. Out on the water there is a buoy for boats and kayaks, and kids are welcomed at this getaway.
