Redondo, just west of Federal Way on Puget Sound, has a fishing pier, boat launch, and one of the area’s best restaurants: Salty’s at Redondo (28201 Redondo Beach Dr. S, 253/946-0636, www.saltys.com/seattle_south [1]). Primarily a seafood restaurant, Salty’s has one of the best sunset views around, and you can drink or dine outdoors on the pier in the summer months.

A good place for a light meal is Lolli’s Broiler & Pub (32925 1st Ave. S, 253/838-5929), a restaurant/tavern that serves huge burgers and good sandwiches, along with an extensive selection of beers on tap—32 at last count.
