Friday Harbor has three good places to buy new books: Boardwalk Books (upstairs from Front St. Café, 360/378-2787, 9 a.m.–7 p.m. daily), Griffin Bay Bookstore (40 1st St., 360/378-5511, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. daily in summer, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily in winter), and the largest place in town, Harbor Bookstore (upstairs in Cannery Landing, 360/378-7222, 9 a.m.–7 p.m. daily in summer, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily in winter).
Because I'm partial to well-loved books, my favorite bookstore on the island is Serendipity Books (at the top of the ferry lanes, 360/378-2665, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily), which offers used titles at good prices. The selection is fantastic, and titles are well organized.
