Postage-stamp sized Obstruction Pass State Park is a perfect place to teach a young child how to skip stones. After hiking down the network of trails through madrona trees, you are greeted by a beach made up of a rainbow of buttery-soft pebbles washed smooth by the ocean tides.
Take a seat on one of the innumerable bleached drift logs here, listen to the waves ripple through the stones, and see how many times you can get the flat ones to bounce off the water’s surface.
To get to Obstruction Pass State Park from Eastsound, drive through Moran State Park [1] to Olga and turn left to Olga. After a half mile, turn right onto Obstruction Pass Road and look for the sign to the park in 1.5 miles. Turn right and head another mile to the parking lot.
