Maybe a festival celebrating ditch-digging doesn't excite you. But the Sequim Irrigation Festival (www.irrigationfestival.com [1]) is the longest-running festival in Washington State, so it must have something going for it! Parades, art and flower shows, a carnival, fireworks, logging show, and a one-of-a-kind chainsaw carving contest (second largest in America!) commemorate the annual event, held on the first full week of May each year.
In July, the Celebrate Lavender Festival (877/681-3035, www.lavenderfestival.com [2]) features tours of local lavender farms, speakers, and an open-air market offering food, music, and demonstrations.
