Most Westport [1] accommodations are straightforward, down-to-earth affairs. Many have kitchenettes, but only a few offer hot tubs or pools. As one owner told me in her broken English, “no pool—big giant ocean out there!” Contact the chamber of commerce (360/268-9422 or 800/345-6223 www.westportgrayland-chamber.org [2]) for a list of rental homes in the Westport area.
Most of the rooms at Alaskan Motel (708 N. 1st St., 360/268-9133 or 866/591-4154, www.westportwa.com/alaskan [3], $60–82 s or d) are simple kitchenette units, though there are some newer guest cottages with enclosed decks ($140–165 d).
A three-story building in the boat basin, Coho Motel (2501 N. Nyhus, 360/268-0111 or 800/572-0177) has rooms for $49–54 s or d, and third-floor suites for $68 d. The owners also manage a popular charter fishing operation.
An unpretentious, one-story motel with a gazebo for fresh fish barbecues, Mariners Cove Inn (303 Ocean Ave., 360/268-0531 or 877/332-0090, www.marinerscoveinn.com [4], $59–74 s or d) has clean, modern hotel rooms.
It might fool you at first glance, but Chateau Westport Motel (710 Hancock, 360/268-9101 or 800/255-9101, www.chateauwestport.com [5], $111–124 d, suites $217–383) is actually pretty nice inside. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, many with balconies and ocean views. The hotel has an indoor heated pool and hot tub. Facilities also include a horseshoe pit and playground, plus free Wi-Fi. As an added bonus, the free continental breakfast starts at the dark hour of 4:30 a.m. for those headed out on fishing trips.
There might not be a pool, but fun-lovin’ families will appreciate the go-kart track right on the property at Breakers Motel (971 Montesano St., 360/268-0848, http://breakersmotel.com [6], $94–140 d). The motel offers standard rooms and kitchenette units, as well as newer hot-tub suites ($210–230).
Built in 1898 and surrounded by tall evergreens, Glenacres Inn B&B (222 N. Montesano St., 360/268-9391 or 800/996-3048, $80–135 d) is the most interesting place to stay in Westport [1]. The B&B has eight guest rooms with private baths, and guests are treated to a full breakfast. A gazebo encloses the hot tub.
