Befitting its beachside location, Long Beach [1] is home to the World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame (3rd St. NW and Pacific Hwy., 360/642-4020, www.worldkitemuseum.com [2], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. daily May.–Sept., 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Fri.–Mon. Oct.–Apr., $5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 children). Inside, you’ll learn the history of kites and how they were used during wartime and in developing airplanes. Also here are kites from around the globe, a re-created Japanese kite artist workshop, and a gift shop.
The World Kite Museum offers kite-making workshops the first Saturday of the month May–August.
