Great camping for tents or RVs can be had at Cape Disappointment, and RVers will find more than 20 different parking lot/campgrounds along the Long Beach Peninsula [1]. Get a complete listing at the visitors center, or just drive along Pacific Highway until one looks acceptable. For unbeatable oceanfront access, Andersen’s RV Park (1400 138th St., Long Beach, 360/642-2231 or 800/645-6795, www.andersensrv.com [2], $45 oceanfront with full hookups, $35 regular full hookups) is the way to go. This dog-friendly park is just a few yards from the sand and surf—grab a fishing pole and tromp through the dune trail to spend the day fishing. There’s even a fish- and clam-cleaning station on the property. Facilities also include hot showers and wireless Internet. There are no open fire pits, to preserve the dune grasses, but guests can rent enclosed fire containers ($6/day). Another well-maintained and friendly option, Driftwood RV Park (1512 N. Pacific Hwy., 360/642-2711 or 888/567-1902, www.driftwood-rvpark.com [3], $36 with full hookups) offers grassy sites with lots of space to unwind. Rent a clam gun here to take out to the beach and then use the clam- and fish-cleaning station on premises.
