Located two miles east of Highway 197 on Highway 14, Horsethief Lake State Park has good trout and bass fishing from your boat or one of the park’s rentals, with two boat launches—one on the lake, one on the river.
Nearby is 500-foot-high Horsethief Butte, a favorite of rock climbers. The park is surrounded by some of the oldest petroglyphs and pictographs in the Northwest.
The campground at Horsethief (509/767-1159, open April–Oct.) has four standard sites ($17), eight partial utility sites ($23), six primitive sites ($12), a dump station, and a restroom.
