Labor Day weekend’s Ellensburg Rodeo [1] (509/962-7639 or 800/426-5340, www.ellensburgrodeo.com [2]) is one of the top rodeos in the nation, attracting cowboys from all over with prize money of more than $250,000.
The rodeo has been around since 1923 and features calf roping, wild horse races, cliff races, Brahma bull riding, and wild cow milking during this four-day event. It’s held in conjunction with the carnival, parade, exhibits, and top-notch country entertainment of the Kittitas County Fair at the fairgrounds at the east end of 6th Avenue.
Rodeo tickets include admission to the fair; order up to a year in advance. Nearly all the tickets are gone for the weekend events by early August.
