Wenatchee [1] is home to a thriving performing arts scene that seems to support many more performances than one would expect from a town of its size. The focal point of this community is the 550-seat Pacific Arts Center Wenatchee (123 N. Wenatchee Ave., www.pacwen.org [2]), an up-to-date facility that hosts traveling performances from troupes such as the Moscow ballet, the Seattle Symphony string quartet, and the Seattle Opera Young Artists program.
Complementing the PAC is the Music Theatre of Wenatchee (233 N. Wenatchee Ave., 509/662-7814, www.mtow.org [3]), where local performers run regular musical theater shows throughout the year.
Perhaps the most unique venue in town is the Press Room Theatre (14 N. Mission, 509/670-8233), a cozy little performance hall built in the old printing press room the local Wenatchee World left empty after building new print facilities. The building proved an extremely apt theatre venue due to the acoustic panels installed during the press days to dampen printing noise and prevent it from bothering workers in the rest of the building.
Press Room Theatre is home to the local Mission Creek Players (www.ncwtheater.com [4]), which also puts on performances at the Music Theatre. This is also home to cabaret-style improv comedy acts on Friday nights at 8 p.m. Admission costs $5.
