Ridge to River Relay (509/662-8799, www.r2r.org [1]) consists of six different competitions, with teams competing over a 35-mile course that includes cross-country and downhill skiing, running, cycling, and canoeing. It attracts 2,000 participants each year and is held in April. There is also a Junior Ridge to River event.
The self-proclaimed “Apple Capital of the World” is the only proper place to hold the annual Apple Blossom Festival (509/662-3616, www.appleblossom.org [2]), which blooms in the beginning of May. Truly a grand event, the culmination is the Apple Blossom Parade, complete with elaborate floats and an honorary king and queen. Other festivities include carnivals, a charity auction, pancake breakfasts, arts and crafts fair, and lots more.
The Wenatchee Youth Circus (509/662- 0722, www.wenatcheeyouthcircus.org [3]), is commonly called “The Biggest Little Circus in the World.” Local youth train throughout the year in such skills as trapeze, juggling, high wire, and clowning. Come summer, they take their show on the road to venues throughout Washington. The circus is regarded as one of the absolute top nonprofessional circus troupes in the country.
