The popularity of mountain biking has made the Lake Chelan [1] area a particular favorite with bike riders. All sorts of scenic loop trips are possible, covering a wide diversity of terrain. Both highways that go up-lake from Chelan [2] are popular, as are several roads with lighter traffic such as the Manson Loop, the Echo Ridge cross-country ski trails, and numerous Forest Service roads and trails open to mountain bikes.
Check with the Chelan Ranger District for information and maps on roads and trails.
The forest road winding out past Twenty-Five Mile Creek Campground, up a steep mountainside, is a good workout, offering fantastic views out of the upper reaches of Lake Chelan. Trails can be found branching off into the mountains from this road, which eventually comes out again at Entiat [3].
Bikes of decent quality can be rented at Chelan Rentals (509/670-8467, daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m.), right at the entrance to Don Morse Park in town.
