Tucked away in the hillsides, the luxurious 
Mountain Springs Lodge (19115 Chiwawa Loop Rd., 18 miles NW of Leavenworth, 509/763-2713 or 800/858-2276, www.mtsprings.com [1], $250–350 d) has cabins with kitchens and private hot tubs, as well as suites with fireplaces, kitchenettes, and spa tubs. There’s a two-night minimum on weekends; horseback, wagon, and sleigh rides are available.
Another notable place is Mountain Home Lodge (three miles east and 1000 feet above Leavenworth in its own little alpine valley, 509/548-7077 or 800/414-2378, www.mthome.com [2], $150–360 s or d in summer, $300–530 d in winter), which offers a full breakfast, outdoor pool, hot tub, and tennis in the summer. This is particularly popular in the winter when they groom 40 miles of private cross-country trails and lay out three gourmet meals for guests each day. Guests also can take advantage of cross-country skis, snowshoes, and toboggans on the property. During the winter, guests are taken to the hotel by a private Sno-Cat. It is for adults only.
