Sultan (pop. 3,000) is home to the Sultan Summer Shindig the second weekend of July, with a parade, games, food booths, and arts and crafts displays. You’ll also find live music at Sultan River Park on summer Sundays. The town itself doesn’t have much to offer, though you may want to take a look at the tiny wayside chapel two miles west of town.
The clean and friendly Dutch Cup Motel (819 Main St., 360/793-2215 or 800/844-0488, www.dutchcup.com [1], $64–88 d) is a favorite among Highway 2 travelers and Stevens Pass [2] Skiers. Penny-pinchers can find kitchenettes in some rooms, and ski packages are available. This is also Sultan’s de facto chamber of commerce headquarters.
For something different, camp north of town at Lake Bronson Family Nudist Park (360/793-0286, $7 tent, $15 RV with water and electric). This 320-acre resort includes a lodge, lake, sauna, hot tub, café, campsites, RV park, and more. Call for directions.
The Sultan [3] Farmers Market (360/793-2565, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Sat. May–Sept.) is held in River Park.
