Although the scent of deep-fry cookers often pervades Monroe’s [1] air, several local places go beyond this greasy menu. Start the day at Monroe Café (19837 Hwy. 2, 360/794-6940), where breakfast is served all day.
Hitching Post Café (107 W. Main St., 360/805-5495) is a popular family spot downtown for breakfast and lunch.
Sky River Bakery (117 W. Main, 360/794-7434, Tues.–Fri. 7 a.m.–5 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m.–4 p.m., closed Sun.–Mon.) serves Starbucks coffee and fresh-baked goodies.
You’ll find very good seafood at Sailfish Bar & Grill (104 N. Lewis, 360/794-4056, daily 5–10 p.m.). The same building houses the classy Twin Rivers Brewery.
And, of course, there’s always McDonald’s, Burger King, Domino’s, KFC, Skippers, or Taco Time if you just want to eat and escape Monroe [1] as fast as possible.
