This seemingly unimpressive sandwich stop is regarded as one of the best in the city, making the trip to Roxborough, next-door neighbor to Manayunk, well worth it. Each sandwich is loaded with greasy beef—or chicken, which is also highly recommended.
With steaks this filling, side dishes won’t be necessary, but fries (mmm, cheese fries) or onion rings are a good addition if you’ve got a really big appetite. Have a beer or drink with your cheesesteak at the bar or in the back booths, or you can grab a six-pack to go.
Just across the street, you’ll see Dalessandro’s (600 Wendover St. at Henry Ave., 215/428-5407), another local favorite. Like the Pat’s-and-Geno’s rivalry in South Philly, locals have their favorite on this Roxborough corner. Personally, I prefer Chubby’s cheesesetaks, but Dalessandro’s is top-notch for hoagies.
