Philly provides venues aplenty for all kinds of spectator activities, but for major music acts, professional basketball and hockey, and the 2000 Republican National Convention, only the Wachovia Center will do.
The state-of-the-art indoor arena began as the Corestates Center, then became the First Union Center (or locally, the FU Center), until Wachovia acquired naming rights.
It has a capacity topping 20,000 and hosts the Philadelphia Flyers [2], 76ers [3], Wings [4], and Soul [5]. Big stars who have performed in the space include Billy Joel, Madonna, Ray Charles, KISS, and just about everyone else.
