Known locally as the Bike Race, one of the biggest sporting events in the United States is, for most Philadelphians, just another excuse to party. On a Saturday in June, cyclists complete 10 laps of a scenic 14.4-mile circuit, passing over the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Kelly Drive, through Fairmount Park, and up the infamously steep Manayunk Wall.
Watch from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art [2], or head to Main Street in Manayunk or near the Manayunk Wall.
Many neighborhood households along the route hold parties on their front porches to cheer the athletes on and drink the day away.
