Most of the city’s recreational opportunities take place in Fairmount Park. In addition to the large areas of the park that straddle the Schuylkill River—East and West Parks—it also encompasses 63 distinct neighborhood parks and gardens , including hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and jogging trails , including the popular Schuylkill River Bike Path.
Those in search of less-trafficked areas head to the Wissahickon in the northwest section of the city or to one of the many nearby suburban parks and nature reserves.
Beyond the endless recreational opportunities on land, Philadelphia’s two major rivers—the Delaware and Schuylkill—offer water enthusiasts a place to enjoy kayaking, rowing, boating, and water tours.
