1200 Market St., 215/627-1200,
The modern, stylish Loews occupies the former PSFS (Philadelphia Savings Fund Society) building, considered by many to be the first modern, international-style skyscraper in the country. Designed by George Howe and William Lescaze, it was constructed in 1932.
Despite its modern incarnation today, it retains some original and early details, including Cartier clocks and bank-vault doors. There is also a full-service health spa, high-end seafood restaurant, a business center, spinning room, and lap pool on-site.
The hotel is well-equipped for the business traveler with T1 cable lines, modem lines, and electronic safes, but cool enough to be chosen by many leisure travelers for its host of amenities, stylish decor, happening bar scene, and central location. Rooms range from $179–229 depending on size and type.
