Only about an hour’s drive from Philadelphia [1], Bucks County offers a unique blend of rural countryside filled with farms, creeks, and covered bridges, along with a bustling arts and cultural scene.
Local towns of interest include Doylestown, Lahaska, and New Hope [2] in Pennsylvania, and Lambertville in New Jersey, all located within a short drive from one another along Route 202.
Only about 30 miles north of Philadelphia [1], and an hour or less by car, Bucks County is easily accessible by I-95, Routes 1 and 13, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Amtrak’s regional rail lines travel through Bucks County with stops in Trenton, NJ, and other nearby locations (800/872-7245, www.amtrak.org [3]).
SEPTA (215/580-7800, www.septa.org [4]) has regional rail lines throughout Bucks County with stops in Doylestown and in Trenton, NJ.
Once in Bucks County, it is possible to get between major points on public transportation, but most people prefer to drive or ride bikes in the nice weather, which is essential for getting to some of the more off-the-beaten-path sights. If you plan on staying in New Hope [2] or Lambertville, everything is within an easy walk, but you’ll need a car to explore outside of these towns.
