John Wayne loved the Northwest because he could visit the area and not be hounded by autograph seekers, and he especially loved the Strait of Juan de Fuca [1]. The Duke liked it so much he bought land on Sequim Bay and donated it for a marina.
The John Wayne Marina has 422 slips, a landscaped park and picnic area, and a bronze statue of the Duke as he appeared in the 1949 flick She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.
