Across from the Milwaukee Art Museum [1] in O’Donnell Park, the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum (929 E. Wisconsin Ave., 414/291-0888, www.bbcmkids.org [2], 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, from noon Sun., closed Mon. Sept.-June, $6) has been rated by Parents magazine in the top 10 for best museums for families.
The triangular Milwaukee County Historical Center (910 N. Old World 3rd St., 414/273-8288, www.milwaukeecountyhistsoc.org [3], free) features fascinating explicative displays on the city’s legendary Bridge Wars and roiling socialism. A painting alcove displays works of the Panorama painters—an obscure Milwaukee [4] specialty. The center’s interiors were closed for renovation at last check; call for hours.
