Visiting friends in Madtown over the weekend? Well you ain’t sleepin’ in Saturday. No matter how hung over or workweek-weary we are, arising early for a stroll around the Capitol [1] at the Dane County Farmers Market (www.madfarmmkt.org [2]) — the largest of its kind in the United States — to pick up goat cheese, salmon, and organic produce (and java) is an absolute must.
More than 200 farmers line Capitol Square April–October and dispense everything you could possibly imagine.
Key word: organic — though not exclusively; everything, however, must be grown/raised in Wisconsin. The only-in-Madison [3] juxtapositions include an organic herb farmer, a free-range-chicken vendor, a Hmong family selling vegetables, jugglers, local politicos pressing the flesh, and a heckuva lot of political or social organizations of many bents.
Add to this zillions of gapers circling counterclockwise (most hauling SUV-size baby strollers). Agoraphobics won’t take to it at all.
Just try to beg off when your friends shake you awake!
