For over 20 years, the annual Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Powwow (7070 E. Broadway, 989/775-4000, www.sagchip.org [1], free) has offered visitors the opportunity to observe and experience traditional Native American dress, dancing, drumming, chanting, cuisine, and crafts.
The competition, held in early August, attracts performers from all over the United States, making it one of the biggest events in the Indian Nation—and a terrific place for outsiders to learn about Native American culture.
