Opened in late 1957, the Mackinac Bridge was built to link Michigan’s two disparate peninsulas. Presently, “Mighty Mac” is the third longest suspension bridge in the world. Once you’ve crossed the five-mile-long bridge, between Mackinaw City [1] and St. Ignace [2], make a quick stop at lovely Bridge View Park, where you can snap pictures of this modern engineering marvel.
The eight-acre grounds include an observation building and several picnic pavilions. For more information about the bridge, consult the Mackinac Bridge Authority (www.mackinacbridge.org [3]).
