Crisp Point Light

If lighthouses are your thing, here’s a truly obscure one to add to the list. The 58-foot Crisp Point Light sits on a tiny arc of land 14 miles west of Whitefish Point [1], an isolated, unbroken stretch of Lake Superior shoreline. Though an automated light took over duty decades ago, the handsome 1904 tower and adjacent home still stand. The buildings definitely need work, but the tower was recently painted, so there’s some movement afoot for their preservation.

Getting to Crisp Point Light

You’ll need a map to find the light—and a four-wheel-drive vehicle wouldn’t hurt either. (Don’t attempt the last couple of miles if the ground is wet.) Crisp Point Light is about nine miles east of the mouth of the Two Hearted [2]. Reach it from the west on Country Road 412, or from the east via the Farm Truck Road truck trail off M-123.
