Right in Sault Ste. Marie [1], there’s a modern, 65-site municipal campground at Aune-Osborn Park (1225 E. Portage Ave., 906/632-3268, mid-May–mid-Oct., $20–22) on the St. Mary’s River near the Sugar Island ferry dock. Just east of Brimley, Brimley State Park (9200 W. 6 Mile Rd., 906/248-3422, state park vehicle permit required, $16–23) offers about a mile of sandy Lake Superior beach, a large modern campground, and not a whole lot else.
Still, it’s a good choice for anyone looking for an easy place to set up camp to enjoy the Soo and other nearby attractions. This is a popular park, so consider making reservations (800/447-2757) if you’re aiming for a summer weekend.
