Shopping in Manitou [1] means the usual tourist candy stores, T-shirt shops, and art galleries, but then it gets more interesting with the themed stores.
There is the Hemp Store (2 Ruxton Ave., 719/685-1189) with a variety of things made from the fiber, the Nature of Things Chain Saw Art (347 Manitou Ave., 719/685-0171, www.natureofthingschainsawart.com [2]) with lots of wooden sculptures and demonstrations available, and All My Relations Creations (805 Manitou Ave., 719/685-1520), which is one of many Native American gift and gallery shops (though they claim to be the only such store in town actually owned by Native Americans).
Not a store but worth a look is Rockey’s Storybook Art Studio (10–12 Cañon Ave., 719/685-9076, hours vary), where artist and local legend C. H. Rockey displays his sculptures and works on an intricately illustrated storybook.
