Not only has Vail [1] added a few new large hotels, but some old favorites got expensive face-lifts and others are scheduled for their makeovers.

The Arrabelle at Vail Square (675 Lionshead Pl., 970/754-7777, www.arrabelle.rockresorts.com [2], $139–839) is on the new Vail Square in Lionshead. Opened in January 2008, the Arrabelle has 35 rooms and 56 condominiums and is walking distance from new shops, restaurants, and an ice-skating rink.

Also in Lionshead is the Antlers at Vail (680 W. Lionshead Pl., 970/476-2471 or 800/843-8245, www.antlersvail.com [3]) with 24 condominiums. The Antlers did a major renovation in 2000–2002 and again in 2004. The rates here vary tremendously depending on the time of year—the same studio/1 bath that goes for $190 per night in the summer and early fall fetches $580 per night during the winter holidays.
