Beer lovers should make a point of sampling one of Atlanta’s popular homegrown microbrews, or take the time to tour a local brewery.
The Atlanta Brewing Company (2323 Defoor Hills Rd., 404/355-5558, www.atlantabrewing.com [1]) bills itself as the oldest operational craft brewery in Georgia, open since 1993. Best known for its Red Brick Ale brand, Atlanta Brewing also produces Red Brick Blonde and Peachtree Pale Ale. The brewery hosts a tour and tasting every Wednesday and Friday 6–8 p.m.
Sweetwater Brewing Company (195 Ottley Dr., 404/691-2537, www.sweetwaterbrew.com [2]) boasts a 49,000-barrel production of “aggressive, West Coast–style” beers. The award-winning brewery manufactures Sweetwater Blue, Sweetwater IPA, Sweetwater Georgia Brown, and a rotating line of seasonal microbrews. Brewery tours are offered Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5:30 p.m.
