One of two surfing beaches on Tortola [1], Josiah’s Bay is a long, straight stretch of sand on the northeastern coast. Two casual beach bars sell food and drinks on the eastern end, and there is often an informal game of beach volleyball under way. A half dozen shelters provide shade along the vast expanse of white sand. Stay close to the eastern end to feel like part of the action, or strike out to the far western side for a more solitary experience.
During the winter, waves here attract local surfers, but the beach is especially good for boogie boarding, the sport of riding smaller waves close to shore. You can rent gear from the beach bars. This is also a great beach for walking.
Josiah’s Bay beach is at the head of a large, flat bay that is also home to a salt pond and farms. The shady, flat road that leads to the beach is a nice place for walking or bike riding.
