Prickly Pear Island, a 243-acre island in the center of North Sound [1], was declared a national park in 1988. Head here in a dinghy or small boat (no ferry service) for a near-perfect day. Vixen Point, the beach visible from Virgin Gorda [2], is a beautiful white-sand beach home to a casual beach bar, the Sand Box.
You can hike from Vixen Point to the north shore, passing several of the island’s four salt ponds and seemingly thousands of prickly pear cactus. On the north shore are two more lovely beaches with good reefs for snorkeling.
