The tourism industry generates opportunities for employment in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Food service, retail sales, hotel management, and the marine industry are the areas where you will find the greatest number of jobs available. Salaries are not always generous, particularly in the service industry, and the cost of living in the islands can be quite high.
In addition to tourism, job opportunities exist in the financial services industry. Accountants, lawyers, and those with special knowledge of offshore finance will find it quite easy to land a job in the islands. In tourism, opportunities exist particularly in the marine fields: sailors, diving professionals, and those with experience servicing boats are in demand.
Remember that you will have to apply for and receive a work permit (via your employer) before you can start work in the BVI. The application must take place while you are off-island. Work permits are issued only when the employer can demonstrate that there are no belongers qualified or interested in the job.
